Omar & Jem were married yesterday out at the B&B Inn in Apex. I lovely ceremony and a lively reception.

Nose to the grindstone for a while. I have over 2000 files that need to be post-processed and several print orders to get working on.

who got married?

who got married?

Shelley and Jimmy. That's who!

While working on the images from Shelley & Jimmy's recent wedding I came across this one and started to chuckle. It's a pose I do fairly often at weddings. The results are sometimes great (such as this) and others display total confusion as the party ask's what the hell the photographer is doing.

Just keeping it light, that's all!

LeAnne & Stephen

Wow.

Where do I begin to even describe this awesome wedding. So many cool people. A very photogenic location. A family that I really enjoyed being with. A wedding celebration that was top notch.
LeAnne & Stephen comp 1

I know this photo above is bigger than most of the computer screens looking at it, but it was a big wedding. This is just a mere glimpse at some of the photos. Not even the top 30!

I'll be posting more from the 1300 photos I took this weekend. I'm quickly building a back log for post processing my images and need to get some quality time with Photoshop over the next few days.

LeAnne, Stephen & Families? Love ya.

Johnette & Brooks at the Wagner House

Johnette at the Wagner House, Clayton NC

Adam and I shot a fairly big wedding at the Wagner House. Johnette & Brooks had a fun, traditional wedding that went flawlessly. I say that because on my way to the house the weather alert came on for severe thunderstorms. But the storms cleared in time and the weather was actually quite nice.

The bridal party was great and we got to play around a bit.

I just like this one a lot. She has a very sincere look on her face. The light is good. It was a quick natural light as I did my ninja photographer imitation. That is trying to get the shot without becoming the center of attention!

Love in the gardens... Jessica & Rodolpho's Gallery

I'm swamped in photo processing these days. It's not a bad problem by any stretch of imagination as I rather enjoy going through each photo. I make sure they are up to snuff, deciding if I want to go further such as black and white in this case. It's all good!

I'm pleased to release the gallery of Jessica & Rodolpho. A mere glimpse of the many great images from that wonderful wedding. Enjoy.

Gennifer & Ashely: Quick Peek!

Gennifer & Ashley's wedding at the Pine Lake Pavilion in Mebane, NC. It was a stunning site to see the bride arrive in the carriage and walk down the isle. It was a completely cloudless day with a setting sun. It was setting directly behind the ceremony site and was perhaps some of the toughest lighting conditions I have ever worked in. I set up a couple remote strobes to act as fill flash, but even then I battled flair. In this picture, I tried to use the flair for effect.
Conversely, when shooting away from the sun I got some nice color. This dove is actually a homing pigeon and just flew his happy self home!

Adam, my assistant, was very helpful and we started to work together more naturally with him starting to anticipate my needs. He also scored some nice pictures himself.

Stay tuned for more!

a simple wedding on the farm: Erin & Julian Quick Peek!

Sometimes the simple plans lead to the most intimate and elegant of ceremonies. Erin & Julian held a simply beautiful ceremony on the farm where Julian grew up. The location was wonderful and the sky's cleared up for a wonderful evening wedding.

Julian is starting a robotics company, hence the robot on their cake. This is just a preview. I have some really great images from this fun wedding.

In the Gardens with Jessica & Rudolpho

Sneak Peek!

I was really excited for this wedding. After meeting Jessica and quickly learning she is fun, down to earth and full of life, I began to eagerly await this wedding. It was no surprise that Rudolpho was great to work with too. Heck, everyone I met that day was great!

Rudolpho has a great look. I'd like to photograph him some more one day...

Pam & John preview

Labor day found me in Morrisville for a lovely small ceremony with Pam & John. I really enjoy the smaller, intimate weddings as they provide a lower stress environment but push me to think harder on my photography.

Pam's mom was great. She jumped in help produce this great portrait.

If I dont' mind saying, this is a pretty sweet ring shot that would make a killer background in an album.

Who got married? Pam & John, that's who!

I was asked to assist Anne Wilson with Jacoby Wedding Photography on a very elegant wedding at Duke Gardens. This is the first of what will become some great collaborations between Anne & I. It was a wonderful wedding in a wonderful location. I have a wedding here later this month that I'm really stoked to shoot.

A Shady Wagon wedding.

A traditional wedding right here in my home town of Apex. Erin and Andy are about as easy going as a couple I've had the pleasure of working with.

A shout out to Adam Hanjos who assisted me during the wedding and provided a couple sweet shots too.

Becky & Brett's gallery is up!

Here it is! Link
It's pretty easy to see these two are in love with each other.

I also wanted to post this cake shot. The cake(s) are fairly conservative and even more so as they sat in an empty room with builder tan painted walls as a background. I'm starting to use a touch of color to bring some shots a touch of spark. The color starts off a touch blown out in this particular shot but the effect is dramatic. I used an SB-24 on a gorillapod and fired it with pocket wizards. I'll be doing more of this type of accent in the future.

100!
This post marks my 100th blog! Woo hoo!

Brett and Becky tying the knot

I had the honor of shooting a small, family style wedding in North Raleigh last night. Becky and Brett were very fun to photograph and their families were super nice and had me in stitches several times throughout the night. Both Becky and Brett had fun senses of humuor so I tried to mix it up a bit and thought outside of the box in terms of posing. I heard someone in back of me comment that this particular pose was cheezy. It might be a little cheezy but I also think it's fun and will get a chuckle when folks see it in an album. I'd rather have cheezy than boring.

More to come from Becky and Brett. I just like to throw up one quick edit as soon as the wedding is over.

I added a desaturated look to this one.

Incredible wedding last night

I'm totally spent.

Just got up from a nap.

It was as humid as I've ever shot.

The location was incredible... a castle.

I shot more images than any wedding previously.

Many, many were great! This particular shot is becoming a sort of signature for me.

Shawn from Dash Photography helped me out too. Thanks man, that was huge.

Looking forward to publishing some more images from this fairy tale wedding!

Couple more from Sarah & Josh

I'm still going through the images from Sarah & Josh. I could probably weed out some more and reduce the total amount of images, but I really came home with a large amount of keepers and a fairly nice sum of great images. Here's two more for the world.

Shallow depth of field and a high ISO used here.

First dance. I intentionally framed the cross in the photo. In photoshop, I added a angel glow and a slight vignette to the frame. I bet this would work in black & white also.

Lastly, another attempt at the Dave Hill look.

This attempt is better than my last one, but a far cry from Dave Hill. It still has a certain edgy, Rolling Stone kind of look to it. The jail cell bars work with this type of look too I think. Your comments?

NEWS FLASH! Sarah & Josh BUSTED at their wedding!

I had the privelage of shooting Josh and Sarah this past weekend before I left for our family vacation. The wedding was in a gorgeous church in Greenville, NC. It was a target rich environment to make some great images. It certainly helped that Sarah and Josh were willing to do whatever I wanted!!!!

I can't wait to share more images from this wedding. Perhaps some of my finest work to date will be displayed from it.

These two images were taken in the court yard of the church. It's an entrance to the one of the church towers. We had fun in there!

This is the very last photo I took this day. I think it came out pretty darn good. I used two strobes on this. One to light the bride and the other on the groom. Sarah and Josh were great to work with. I never felt rushed or in the way. Thanks guys.

Natural Light

As I progress through the images from my last wedding, I was struck by a certain image. It's Ace, the ring bearer, from Angel and Derek's wedding. The shot was totally spur of the moment, but none the less, it's a keeper. More important to me is it's a natural light shot at low apeture. Not the easy shot to pull off in setting light.

Certainly not the best photos I've ever taken but it has spurred me to do more with natural light. Seems I've been consumed with off-camera lighting (thanks Strobist) but I also need to balance it with some good old fashion natural light. I'm thinking self-assigned natural light projects coming soon.

Angel & Derek Quick Peek!

Wonderful wedding this past weekend with close friends Angel & Derek. I came home with a ton of photos and have been combing through them ever so slowly. Here's a quick peek at several photos I've worked on the last few days.
The cake image has no real special effects to it. Pretty much straight out of the camera.

The mirror shot has been desaturated and slightly softened. One of my favorite shots from the getting ready set.

Princess brides maid. I softened the skin a tad on this photo.

The ceremony. No special effects here either.

I like this one too. It has a desaturated effect I call midnight. A free action I downloaded from Action Central.

Cropped to 5x5 and I added an "Angel Glow" as well as a tiny bit of skin softening. I also added two strokes of the wedding colors.

A black and white candid. I love the way B&W enchances an image. This is a good photo in color but a great photo in B&W.

A little softening here and sharpen the eyes.

I'll be out of pocket the next few days. No emails, blog posts or photos as I take a short vacation (after a wedding on Saturday) with the family. Happy Fourth of July!

Katherine & Russ Gallery is up! And who is Dave Hill?

I have posted Katherine & Russ' wedding gallery up here: http://www.timbroyer.com/clients/KR070608/

Some of the images of the children are really great although on my uncalibrated monitor at work, they look a little flat. There is such a huge difference in monitors and the colors they show. Heck, there are books on the subject. Suffice to say, the proof is in the prints. Online media will never out due prints when it comes to color, sharpness and quality.

Rene and Matt with a Dave Hill color process

Who is Dave Hill? He's an award winning advertising photographer who's work you've probably scene in Nike ads or sports magazines etc... He has this unique post-process that leads to a saturated, contrasty look. The image here is my first attempt to duplicate his look and feel but my attempt isn't as edgy as his. Imitation is a sincere form of flattery. I'm going to continue experimenting with this look and perhaps stumble blindly upon my own unique look.

The Bouquet

The bouquet is such a pivotal part of a wedding ceremony. As a photographer, it's a great accessory or perhaps even the focal point of the photo. It makes for great color in an otherwise black and white environment.

What does it symbolize? Wikipedia lists them as having dated back to medieval times. Whatever their origin, I like them and make concerted efforts to incorporate them into several artistic shots throughout a wedding.

Nervous bride

Rene was just a little nervous be she stepped out of the dressing room and onto the ceremony. This was literally a quick snap with the camera. I converted it to black and white while in RAW format. Just something about it that draws me to this picture.

Stay tuned for more from Rene & Matt.

Online gallery for Nancy & Tommy

I've finished processing all of Nancy & Tommy's photos. This particular one is rather lucky as they were kissing when I went for the bouquet. I used a selective toning process to highlight the flowers.

I used a new Flash software called Soundslides to produce it. It's the best Flash gallery I've ran across yet.

Wedding portraits

As I go through the images from Nancy and Tommy's wedding, I'm really happy with the captures from the mini portrait session we had at the old State Capital building. Custom Quadtone

As much as I like a good, high contrast black and white print, I also enjoy multi-tone effects as well. With today's modern photoshop treatments, the sky is the limit. This photo has a blend of four different tones. The first is solid black. I then added a soft gray, a very light pastel pink and very light mustard yellow. Along with a nice soft effect it completely changes the feel of the photo. This shot was taken seconds after the previous one below yet it offers a different mood.

I like to find out what colors work for a couple and incorporate them into a multi-tone image. I envision a set of portraits with tones that compliment the current colors associated with the room. The sky is the limit.
