Erin & Andy's online gallery for your viewing

A Shady Wagon wedding.

A traditional wedding right here in my home town of Apex. Erin and Andy are about as easy going as a couple I've had the pleasure of working with.

A shout out to Adam Hanjos who assisted me during the wedding and provided a couple sweet shots too.

Rural decay

I spotted this old farm on my way to last weekends reception. Along with the horrible drought we are experiencing in central North Carolina, there is also the ever present push of sprawl and the loss of rural America. I went back out there today to capture a few shots before it's all gone.

I'm building a significant collection of North Carolina rural decay.

Erin & Andy's wagon ride

Erin & Andy had a traditional wedding and reception yesterday. The reception was at the Shady Wagon in New Hill. A nice country setting and perfect for this couple.

Real Estate Development - Multimedia designs

I met Dave Lawler of Straight Up Realty in Pittsboro this past Monday night. He's closing a deal to sell 20 acres of prime land for development. It sits just south of Chapel Hill and rubs up against a golf community called Chapel Ridge. Dave and I will be working together to develop a website and some multimedia sales tools to help publish this listing. We walked the property as I took photos of the woods. How do you make photos of the woods that don't look boring? I'm looking for background and banner type material and photos to give the new website a green look. Eco-friendly green that is. He doesn't have a name for the site yet so I made this one up. The land owner's name is Campbell.

I'm looking forward to this project. Dave and I have already discussed doing things different and not main stream when it comes to real estate marketing.

Becky & Brett's gallery is up!

Here it is! Link
It's pretty easy to see these two are in love with each other.

I also wanted to post this cake shot. The cake(s) are fairly conservative and even more so as they sat in an empty room with builder tan painted walls as a background. I'm starting to use a touch of color to bring some shots a touch of spark. The color starts off a touch blown out in this particular shot but the effect is dramatic. I used an SB-24 on a gorillapod and fired it with pocket wizards. I'll be doing more of this type of accent in the future.

100!
This post marks my 100th blog! Woo hoo!

Brett and Becky tying the knot

I had the honor of shooting a small, family style wedding in North Raleigh last night. Becky and Brett were very fun to photograph and their families were super nice and had me in stitches several times throughout the night. Both Becky and Brett had fun senses of humuor so I tried to mix it up a bit and thought outside of the box in terms of posing. I heard someone in back of me comment that this particular pose was cheezy. It might be a little cheezy but I also think it's fun and will get a chuckle when folks see it in an album. I'd rather have cheezy than boring.

More to come from Becky and Brett. I just like to throw up one quick edit as soon as the wedding is over.

I added a desaturated look to this one.

East Coast School: 4 - Bob Boyd

Bob Boyd. Master photographer. Manipulator of light. Craftsman of the smile and maker of stunning portraits.

I didn't know it at the beginning of class but by the end of the class I knew I was learning under a legend and all around good guy. Bob is inspirational and immensely knowledgeable. My photography style is fairly modern with a slant towards journalistic. It must come from my love on National Geographic, but Bob was your classic portrait artist with the end result being that super print hanging in your living room as an heirloom. We're actually quite different when it comes to style, but similar when it comes to passion and the love of photography. I had an incredible time at his portrait class and took away ton of information that I'm keen to unleash on the world.

A shout out to my new friends in class. It was a real treat spending time with other professionals and I look forward to some long term relationships on a professional and friendship level. I can highly recommend the East Coast School and Professional Photographers of America. I'm in good company.

East Coast School: 3

I have learned so much at the PPNC East Coast School of Photography. I've met some really nice people. Everyone is keen to share information and that is certainly refreshing. Bob Boyd is the man. He really knows his stuff when it comes to posing and lighting. I'm very pleased with my decision to take his class and I can't even begin to tell you what I've learned. The class has cemented my decision to pursue professional photography.

Students from the Triangle Academy of Dance came to pose for us. They were some great models and highly professional young ladies. These shots are also natural light shots as we are not allowed to use strobes in the classroom environment.

I can see myself taking East Coast School every year and I can also see myself making life long friends and associates while I attend.

Good Stuff.

East Coast School: 2

East Coast School is rocking. Bob Boyd rocks and really knows his stuff, albeit it's a little old school. I'm learning lots of information and I really enjoy the posing aspect of the class.

This particular shot is unique in that I timed my long exposure (1.3 seconds) so I could capture the instructors strobes firing. It took me about six attempts to get it and it's a tad blurry but hey? I made do without my own strobes.

I also got a chance to pose this Jazz musician model too. I used his guitar head to create a shadow behind him. It even impressed myself! Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the photo because it now belongs to Bob.

East Coast School: 1

East Coast School photography workshop, day one. I'm enrolled in Bob Boyd's class for portait lighting and I'm really having a great time. I'm putting in some serious hours and miss my family already. I've met some extraordinary people and already feel it's money well spent. Investing in myself.

This is Bob teaching us some tricks on family portraiture. He is old school but certainly knows his stuff.

East Coast School

I'm headed to the East Coast School photography workshop that will be held in Raleigh. I plan on attending Bob Boyd's portait class for the entire week. I'm really looking forward to class, meeting Bob and other photographers while working on my craft. Who knows what it could bring?

Have a great week everyone. I'll be busy!
